Hussain is a Qualified Accountant registered as a Fellow Member at the Institute of Financial Accountants (UK). He has a PRINE2 qualification and completed a Global Executive MBA program in 2021. He worked over 10 years at EY, a global accountancy firm. He holds PHis role entailed being a trusted finance business partner to the UK government sector, serving internationally for private sector clients at C-suite level. He has worked on various assurance and consulting engagements with corporate clients including AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Anglo American, De Beers, ARM, Harrods, Honda, Huawei, Pfizer, Vodafone, Unilever, and NEOM. He also worked with Embassy of the State of Kuwait, UK.
He has led on global process transformation programmes including ERP implementation, streamlining process improvement, and producing annual reports and accounts. He has worked on Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) projects with UK Government Departments delivering robust business plans and business cases as part of saving efficiencies in cross-governmental departments. He has worked on various financial controls, grant assurance, accounting policy manual; and budgeting and forecasting engagements. He has worked with an international trust fund for managing funds from international governmental aid agencies including FCDO, securing a budget of $1.2bn, working with senior leadership stakeholders and third-party developers based in Africa and South Asia.
His engagements with Government clients include HM Treasury, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Justice, Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office, British Council, Department of Health and Social Care, Department of Education, Department for Transport, and various Local Authorities, Police Crime Commissioners and NHS around the UK.
Upon graduating with BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance, he worked in the UK Civil Service for over 7 years, started as a Budget Manager in Ministry of Defence and had managed a budget of £78m. He then took the role as a Regimental Accountant at the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment within the Royal British Army, working with Charity Commission. This led on to him taking on the role as a Finance Manager at Office of Fair Trading, which entailed having to develop and put in place robust financial planning and operations. He later worked as a Portfolio Manager at Ministry of Justice, managed the Change Delivery Committee Board with a portfolio of 20 programmes delivering £900m savings. He received the International Association of the Bookkeepers Award for delivering exceptional accounting services in the Civil Service.
Hussain actively contributes to making positive social changes and impact. He is a Finance Director for a Deaf charity and a School Governor in West Midlands, UK. He is the network lead for the Global Islamic Chamber of Trade & Commerce (GICTC) Accounting & Finance Professional Services Network. His profile was featured in Top 10 Influential Muslims for Financial & Professional Services by EqualityX in 2022.
